Yesterday, the people of Ember decided to stand up for themselves and ask for more food from the people of Sparks. They have a good point, because they really have not been getting very much food to live on lately. The people of Sparks did not react very well to that request, and felt like Ember was being ungrateful for what they have already given- after all- they didn’t HAVE to give them anything! So who is right? Should Ember get more food, or not? Do the people of Sparks have the right to feed their own families first? Tell me who you think is right….

Yesterday, we read the chapter in Ember called “Where the River Goes”. I am sure you will all agree that there were many feelings going on, in the book and right here on the carpet! Some of you could hardly contain yourselves as I was reading! I want you to write a comment here that tells me about those feelings. Use the reading response page in your black notebooks to help guide your answer here. You can write about what Doon or Lina was feeling, or what you were feeling, or both! Please remember to use complete sentences so that we can all feel what you feel. Ready, Set, BLOG!

Yesterday we talked about two questions that had not come up about our book yet.
Is Ember set in the past or the future?
Where is Ember? Is it on Earth since there is no sun? If it is on Earth, why don’t they have sun?
Let me know what you are thinking! You had great things to say yesterday- so put those ideas here!

This week is Red Ribbon Week here at Branson Elementary. We will talk a lot about making healthy choices. I am sure that you make choices every day that make you who you are! I have already made a few this morning, like choosing to drive the speed limit, even if it meant I might be late. Let’s hear what kinds of good or healthy choices you make in your life!

Lina has lost her little sister Poppy. I remember one day I lost my son Tanner in the grocery store, and it was really scary! He was right beside me, and then he was gone. I found him by the live lobster tank…of course! Have you ever been lost? Tell me the story! Parents feel free to chime in too…perhaps you have lost your little ones, or maybe you were lost when you were little. We’ll read today to see if Lina finds Poppy.

We have started a new adventure in a strange new place called Ember. The author is very good at using words to paint a picture of the characters and the setting in this book. Tell me some things that you already know about Ember, Lina, or Doon just from listening to the description of the setting and characters. Think about how Ember is different from Branson. Please include at least 3 details from the book.

Hey there V Safari! I am so excited for the book fair this week! I love to wander around the room looking at all of the choices. I always look for some of my favorite series, but I really like to look at new books or series that I have not seen before. We will visit the fair together on Monday. Tell me what you found! Did you get a book that you would recommend to others? Tell us about it! If you have a suggestion for a book to add to our classroom library, tell me that too. I want to know what YOU saw at the book fair!

We have been reading about all of the crazy characters who go to Wayside School. Each one has something a little different or funny about them. I was thinking this weekend about what it would be like if you were one of those characters in Wayside School! What would your chapter be about? What unusual or funny thing would you do in your chapter? Let’s come up with some ideas about what “Sideways Stories from the V Safari” might look like!
